Mental health in London

Wondering about the unconscious impact of living in large cities such as London. Do large cities stimulate us so much that we end up being flooded and shut down against realtionships?

Is that possibly why despite good intentions to regularly meet up with friends and family, we end up with long periods between get- togethers? We need relationships and social contact but we also need alone time. Time spent on the tube, buses, the streets, shops and public spaces such as cafes, restaurants and galleries may be affecting into unconsciously seeing that as social time. The political and social environment in London and across the world has changed so much in the last few years and created uncertainty, unpredictability, animosity and distress. Without being consciously aware of the impact of all those changes because they are not visible or tangible, are we seeking respite by retreating into our one-person bubbles using our screens, food or drink/drugs?

Are we shutting out friends, lovers and families because fellow Londoners are unwittingly invading our personal space?
